What we know about you, which is nothing

The app collects nothing

Dr Bling Bling has no account, no login and no server of ours behind it. Your statements are opened, read and stored on your iPhone. They are not uploaded, not copied to us, and not shared with anyone.

The app contains no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no third-party tracking software of any kind. Nobody here can see whether you installed it, opened it, or whether it worked.

Where your statements go

A statement you add is read on the device, and the transactions it contains are stored in the app's own database on that device. The original file is not kept.

If you turn on iCloud backup in Settings, that database is backed up to your own iCloud account under your own Apple Account, in the same way as your photos and notes. That is between you and Apple, and Apple's terms apply to it. We have no access to it. Turn the setting off and everything stays on the phone.

Reading the shop names

To work out what a payment was, the app uses a list of known merchants, rules you have given it, and the shape of the transaction. When those cannot answer, it asks Apple's on-device language model, which runs on the iPhone itself. Nothing about your transactions is sent off the device to do it.

The camera and your files

The app asks for the camera only when you choose to scan a paper statement, and for your photo library only when you choose to pick a picture of one. It uses neither for anything else, and it does not ask on first launch.

Notifications

If you allow it, the app sends one notification a month with the findings from the month just ended. It is asked for once, after a statement has been imported successfully, and it can be switched off in Settings. There is never a second kind of notification.

This website

The website counts how many people visit, using a self-hosted copy of Umami. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data and does not follow you anywhere. It records aggregate figures such as how many people opened a page and roughly where in the world they were.

If you join the waiting list, we keep the email address you typed, the language you were reading in, and the date. That is the whole record. It is held in a small database on a server in Europe and it is used for one message, on the day the app reaches the App Store. It is never sold, never shared, never given to an advertiser, and never used for anything else.

You asked for that message by filling in the form, and you can change your mind at any moment: write to support@drblingbling.com and the address is deleted the same day, without being asked why. The first message we send will also carry a way off the list in one click.

That is the website. It is a separate thing from the app, and the app reports nothing, to us or to anybody.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anybody, of any age.

Changes

If this ever changes, the date at the bottom of this page changes with it, and anything that would newly collect data about you will be said plainly rather than added quietly.
